ACOUSTIC DECOR

creation of Dominique Barthassat for the WTID
Entrance hall of the Arena - Geneva

The entrance hall of the Arena resembles the decks of an ocean liner with its differents means of access.
The loudspeakers placed on the different « decks » project the Sound Architectures and the spectator embarks on a musical ride through sound from the entrance and the « cruise » continues as they stroll around the stairways and different « decks » to enter the Arena hall.
The twelve sound points weave a network, like satellites, which evokes the second millennium and the passage into the third millennium with the exploration of a new space of sound which develops new perceptions.
Each point is a pole, which creates different links to the Acoustic Decor, and from which the spectator can experience the whole Acoustic Decor.
A musical score, coil and uncoil in a spiral which meets in synchronicity the musical scores of the different poles at each deck.
The evocation of the depth of the sea, the floating of the ocean liner on the sound mirrors of the surface of the water, let appear in filigrees the musical theme of the 5 continents. In the « sky », one can perceive the subtil sounds of telecommunications throughout the century, sound-vibrations which punctuate our lifes..., are projected on the sound « portholes » (ground-floor) which create sound prisms. Sounds, like a zoom lens or a probe gradually rise to envelop the spectator.
